Posts about real school tragedy, crime and/or events can be upsetting.
I have friends who are teachers. They’ve spent many years obtaining their teaching certificates. Also, they’ve spent many hours building their careers. Often, they work off the clock to grade and plan.
It’s incomprehensible to me that someone would go to great lengths for a career and then throw it away because of a sexual attraction to underage children. But then, I don’t understand how an adult can be sexually attracted to a child and frankly it makes me angry.
BLOG POST #153: This week, I’m sharing research on a specific criminal case involving a middle school science teacher.
He began as a substitute teacher in 2007. Less than ten years later he was convicted of receiving child pornography from middle school students he taught.
It is unknown if his obsession with underage boys began before the crime with which he was convicted.
He befriended several students and regularly chatted with them during his off-duty time through texting and social media. One student, in particular, appeared to be his favorite. When arrested, his cell phone screen saver was of the favorite student, and a photo of him sat on his bedside table.
Based on court documents, the favorite student showed the teacher a nude photo of another student. The teacher asked to be sent the photo. He testified he wanted to confront the student about the inappropriate image.
The teacher was sent the photo. However he didn’t confront the student nor did he report the incident which was a requirement in the school district.
Rather than deal with the situation, he asked for more photos of other students. He texted, “I wanna see peeps I know.”
The communication between the teacher and the student quickly became more and more inappropriate. They discussed the size of male anatomy when aroused, critiqued male genitalia, and the teacher shared a video of him masturbating.
The favorite student successfully obtained and shared nude photos of specific classmates the teacher had requested. The boys had taken the images themselves in a variety of poses but never including their faces.
In addition to the inappropriate videos and photos of himself and students, the teacher also had multiple pornography websites bookmarked on his home computer featuring young boys and teenagers.
After ten minutes of deliberations, a jury found him guilty of one count of knowingly receiving images of child pornography through interstate commerce.
The court sentenced him to 10-years in federal prison. His scheduled release is in 2024, he’ll be 47.
